VM95 series – stereo pickup, elliptical, plus headshell AT-HS6
The AT-VM95E is Audio-Technica’s new entry-level elliptical needle model that not only replaces the legendary AT95E, but also benefits from the developments of the AT95EX introduced in 2015. The AT-VM95E features an improved, distinctive design with a stiffer, low-resonance Gehäuse and, thanks to two threaded inserts in the Gehäuse, particularly easy mounting with just two screws, without nuts (with headshell or integrated into the tonearm).

Even the best diamond needle wears out after some time – conical needles after about 500 hours, elliptical after 300 hours, microlinear needles after 1000 hours, and Shibata needles after about 800 hours. For this reason, the dual-moving-magnet pickups of the VM95 series were designed so that the pickup needles can be interchanged and the pickup itself can be used almost indefinitely. So if the stylus is worn out, you don’t need to buy a new cartridge, just the right replacement stylus – or you can upgrade your system with another, higher-quality stylus. All six VM95 cartridge models have the same electromagnetic drive unit (cabinet). Therefore, the six scanning needles of this series are also 100% compatible.
Elliptical set needle
An elliptical diamond needle follows the deflections of the record groove with greater precision compared to a conical needle, allowing for better frequency response with higher phase fidelity and lower distortion.
Mounting without nuts
VM95 series cartridges have two M2.6 threaded inserts that allow installation on the tonearm or (replaceable) headshell without nuts. Each pickup comes with four M2.6 screws (2 x 8 mm and 2 x 11 mm) and two plastic washers.
