In the almost 50-year history of the company, NAD has already debuted numerous innovative amplifier technologies – starting with the classic 3020 with its enormous current delivery capability to the Class D flagship M2. The NAD M33 is the world’s first high-end streaming integrated amplifier to use the innovative new Purifi Eigenakt technology and has already promptly won the EISA award for best “smart amplifier 2020/21”.
Purifi is a Danish technology company where some of the leading developers in the hi-fi industry aim to identify and eliminate the last remaining weaknesses in digital amplifier technology.
The current state of their work resulted in the Purifi self-powered amplifier, which NAD is the first company to manufacture under license. The Purifi proprietary clock technology convinces metrologically with extremely low intermodulation distortion, a particularly low distortion factor of only 0.005% over the entire frequency response and the complete power bandwidth, as well as minimal inherent noise. The pioneering development of the own tact technology was the realization that a memory effect occurs in the components in the output filter of the amplifier.
This phenomenon, called hysteresis, obviously leads to the well-known tonallosses of conventional digital amplifiers. Through a modification of the output stage and the clever algorithms of the intrinsic clock technology, Purifi managed to significantly reduce the hysteresis effects.
Another advantage of the own tact power amplifiers is that they are absolutely insensitive to changing Speaker. Their extremely low output impedance also results in a very high damping factor, which translates into absolutely clean and controlled bass response.
BluOS high resolution music streaming
For NAD, BluOS is the most advanced network streaming and multi-room system on the market because it enables streaming of high-resolution audio in multiple rooms, can be used with numerous other products, and offers a very special user experience with its unique combination of hardware and software.
BluOS also supports the new MQA compression standard, which allows even studio master recordings in 24-bit/192 kHz format to be stored in comparatively small data packets. Around 20 well-known music services such as Tidal, Deezer, Qobuz, Amazon HD, Spotify, Amazon Music, Slacker or TuneIn can be played via BluOS just like locally stored music libraries. In addition, the M33 can be integrated into the systems of numerous smarthome providers via BluOS.
The M33 can be operated via the TFT touch panel, the BluOS app available for Android and iOS mobile devices as well as Windows and Mac computers, the remote control supplied with the amplifier or via Siri voice control.
Numerous connections and Bluetooth®
The M33 has six digital and three analog inputs, including one for MM/MC phono. HDMI, USB and LAN ports are also available. Two Speaker Speakercan be used to connect two Speaker or one pair conventionally or via bi-wiring. And the two independent subwoofer outputs can be configured exactly to your needs via a digital crossover. Wireless streaming from a smartphone or tablet is enabled by Apple Airplay 2 and the integrated Bluetooth® aptX HD module.
Dirac Live® Room Correction
It is no secret that the acoustics of the listening room have an enormous influence on the reproduction quality of a hi-fi system. The NAD M33 therefore features the innovative Dirac Live® room correction, whose basic function is to calibrate an audio system to the room acoustics.
But in addition to adjusting specific frequencies, Dirac Live® uses advanced algorithms to analyze the impulse response of the played audio signals. In this way, possible deviations between the pulses contained in the original signal and their reproduction are corrected. The amplifier is calibrated via the measuring microphone included in the scope of delivery. After calibration, the hi-fi system not only sounds more balanced, natural and spatial, but also has better speech intelligibility and a deeper and tighter bass.
Five different Dirac Live profiles can be stored so that the hi-fi system always sounds its best despite the different acoustics with open or closed curtains, at different listening positions or with different music genres. The M33’s two independent subwoofer outputs are also compatible with Dirac’s unique “Bass Management”.
Phono and headphone connections
The M33 has a high-quality phono preamplifier switchable for MM and MC systems, whose quality is in no way inferior to that of separate external phono stages. Precise RIAA equalization, an ultra-low noise-cancelling infrasonic filter, and a huge overload margin ensure optimal sound quality. As a headphone enthusiast, you will be thrilled by the sound of the discrete headphone amplifier, which can drive even planar-magnetic and high-impedance studio headphones thanks to its high voltage and low output impedance. Wireless headphones can also be controlled via the integrated Qualcomm Bluetooth® aptX HD module.
