Cambridge Audio Solo (unboxing unit)
Vinyl as it should sound
Whether you’re dusting off your record collection or turning to analog music as part of the vinyl revival, the moment you drop the needle on your favorite album is a unique experience. To preserve the unique warmth of vinyl sound, the Solo phono preamp has been carefully engineered with a state-of-the-art switching power supply and a new surface-mount circuit board layout to reduce unwanted noise rustling.
Cambridge Audio Solo | Why a dedicated phono stage?
Due to the weak signals generated by a turntable, not all hi-fi amplifiers can be connected directly to a turntable. The phono preamplifier boosts this signal to a level that a power amplifier can work with. The challenge at this stage, however, is that noise rustling can easily be added.
That’s why we’ve equipped the Solo with exceptional components that deliver the warm and detailed sound synonymous with vinyl without distorting the signal from your moving magnet pickup. The switching power supply improves performance by switching outside the audible frequency to dramatically reduce hum interference, and the new board layout uses surface mount components to reduce noise rustling.
Attention to detail in the Cambridge Audio Solo
If some records in your collection are a bit worn, the subsonic filter will help eliminate low-frequency rumble that can be caused by imperfections in your vinyl. Combined with the balance control, which compensates for potential pickup imbalances in your turntable (which can cause a difference between the left and right channels), the result is a detailed sound experience with an accurate soundstage.
Environmentally friendly
The Solo phono preamplifier is an environmentally friendly device with a standby consumption of less than half a watt and an automatic shutdown function if the device is not used for a period of 20 minutes. This, in turn, ensures that the device can be operated worldwide with the same voltage and is thus compatible everywhere in the world.
