For sound to have a proper spatial expressiveness, the wavefronts of the speakermust arrive at the listener at the same time – regardless of the listening position. In other words, the speakershould have only one point source of sound. In the SB-C700, the newly developed, low-profile, 2-way coaxial speaker(woofer/midrange and tweeter unit) realizes a point source that provides smoothly directional characteristics over the entire frequency range without level drops. Therefore, the Technics speakeroffers superb localization and spatial imaging.
Phase Precision Driver (coaxial 2-way flat-panel loudspeaker system)
Technics has developed a coaxial 2-way flat-panel loudspeaker unit for faithful reproduction of the entire audible frequency band from the bass to the uppermost treble. The woofer / midrange membrane consists of a high-strength surface of carbon fiber fabric and an aluminum honeycomb carrier. The flat structure of the piston-shaped moving woofer / midrange diaphragm eliminates spurious interference. The die-cast aluminum chassis and a structure of resonance-dissipating struts prevent unwanted resonances.
All measures guarantee sensitive bass and midrange reproduction. The position of the dome tweeter sitting in the center was also precisely matched to the midrange cone to achieve reproduction with linear phase. The tweeter dome is made of super-light and rigid aluminum, which allows it to reproduce sounds in the ultra-high frequency range of up to 100 kHz – this is a masterpiece for audiophile ears.
Rigid body with tapered design
The speaker has the task of safely housing the driver units. Unwanted resonances are also to be suppressed and a smooth sound radiation without edge reflections is to be ensured. The 42 mm thick side walls ensure minimization of edge diffraction. The layered plates used have varying thicknesses for controlled resonance damping. Unwanted resonances inside are effectively mitigated by the different wall thicknesses and the rigidity of the cabinet. The acoustic damping material, its placement and the cabinet volume have been optimized for each chassis to suppress standing waves inside the cabinet. The ring surrounding the suspension of the main chassis at the rear is made of a material of high internal damping and thus suppresses all sound components that arise in addition to the sound controlled by the speaker. The high-gloss cabinet is created in an elaborate process of multiple painting, sanding, polishing and finishing with a high degree of craftsmanship. The cabinet looks beautiful and prevents the finest vibrations that occur on the cabinet, thus contributing to the reproduction of the original spatial sound image. The front cover protects the Membraneand is magnetically held; thus, there are no disturbing elements on the front panel that could lead to the degradation of sound quality. The cover can of course be removed at any time.
High quality crossover
In order to exploit the performance of each speaker and achieve reproduction with maximum balance, the extremely precise crossover design was created in an elaborate process. Only the highest quality components such as polyester film capacitors, silicone damped ferrite coils, air core coils and wiring made of oxygen-free copper wire were used in the manufacturing process.
Ultra Wide Range Reproduction
The Technics SB-C700 speakercan reproduce high-resolution music sources with a frequency range between 20 Hz and 100 kHz. In addition, the system is equipped with a coaxial 2-way flat-panel speaker unit. The result is a faithful music reproduction with all its subtleties.
