TAD Excalibur Red
The Excalibur Red from TAD
High Output MC with natural diamond with Shibata needle sliff scanner: natural diamond with Shibata needle sliff. The high output voltage allows direct connection to a moving magnet (MM) input.
Technically superior: Moving Coil
All Excalibur models operate according to the MC principle. Compared to MM or MI designs, this brings lower inductance and higher mechanical integrity, the most linear, broadband frequency response and thus the best detail and impulse reproduction.
Excalibur Platinum, Gold, Blue & Black are classic low-output MCs for lowest possible moving mass and maximum dynamics. Green & Red are high-output MC systems that can be easily connected to any MM phono input.
When good form improves sound: Design by Helmut Thiele
Every little detail on the generator as well as on the cabinet a pickup can influence the sound. For both the interior and exterior design of the Excalibur models, TAD therefore collaborated with renowned industrial designer Helmut Thiele. Many hours of listening tests, prototypes and refinement steps have resulted in a family of systems that can be manufactured rationally and still provide the highest neutrality and precision.
Made in Japan: Where perfect craftsmanship is sacred
The manufacturing of our Excalibur systems is done by a manufactory in Japan, which has been working for many of the very big analog names for decades. High manufacturing consistency, absolute precision and meticulous quality control are an integral part of the company’s identity here. This way, we can be sure that every Excalibur Platinum, Gold, Black, Red, Green or Blue sounds the way we specified during development.
Green, Blue, Black, Red, Gold or Platinum: The right version for every requirement
All Excalibur models feature low-resonance, rigid needle carriers that provide precise, backlash-free support for the diamond. In the Blue, Green, Red, Black and Gold, hollow aluminum carrier tubes perform this task, while the top-of-the-line Platinum model carries its diamond on an even stiffer and thus lower-loss boron carrier.
Only bare, crystal-oriented diamond rods are used as styli, offering the lowest inertia and best wear features. For the Green and Blue models, they are based on synthetic rough stones that are given a classic elliptical cut. Excalibur Gold, Black and Red carry an even higher-quality natural diamond in a complex Shibata cut, which not only results in superior high-frequency resolution and low distortion, but also significantly extends needle life and minimizes plate wear. The TAD top model Platinum follows the groove flank even more accurately with its MicroRidge diamond. In conjunction with its smaller, lighter coils and a reinforced magnet, the Platinum stands for even finer high-frequency pickup while maintaining a practical output voltage that is barely lower than that of the other low-output models.
