Overview

The Fono MC MK4 is an exceptionally high quality MC phono stage designed to maximize the potential of any low output MC cartridge. Designed specifically for Rega’s latest moving coil cartridges, the Fono MC MK4 is fully adjustable via dip switches on the rear panel, making it compatible with a wide range of low output MC cartridges from other manufacturers.

The Fono MC MK4 is now housed in a brand new cabinet that matches the new Fono MM MK5 and Neo MK2 and Rega’s latest electronic components, offering a modern look that is guaranteed to fit into any hi-fi system.

Quality and aesthetic

A MUSE operational amplifier is used in the RIAA equalization amplifier. Polypropylene capacitors were used in the signal path and in the RIAA equalization circuits.

There is a selectable input load for resistance and capacitance along with two different gain settings on the rear panel that make the Fono MC MK4 compatible with most low output MC cartridges. The new Fono MC MK4 circuit is the result of development work done on the highly successful Aria phono amplifier.

The aesthetic design of the Fono MC MK4 was as important as the quality of its electrical capabilities. As a result, it benefits from the same new aluminum chassis as Rega’s Neo MK2 power supply and Fono MM MK5 phono stage, giving it a design that feels familiar and also puts it in line with its illustrious bigger brothers.

Simple and effective

The Fono MC MK4 was designed to be effective, easy to use, and most importantly, to create music. The Fono MC MK4 uses Linear Systems’ LSK389 low-noise FET in a fully discrete input stage, where low noise and linearity are critical to getting the most out of an MC cartridge.

Due to the high input impedance of the FET, the loading effects of the amplifier circuit are very low and do not affect the performance of the pickup.
