Dynaudio Evoke 20

Medium-sized compact speakers for rooms of any size
Advanced driver technology
The Membrane of the 18 cm diameter Esotec+ woofer is only 0.4 mm thick and is made of MSP (magnesium silicate polymer) – a material developed by Dynaudio themselves that they have been using for their diaphragms for a long time. It is characterized by the perfect synthesis of lightness, stiffness and damping, which (together with the new strontium carbonate Ferrite+ ceramic magnet system) provides an absolutely balanced reproduction of mids and bass.
The entire membrane consists of a single piece of MSP. This design is superior to the alternatives (gluing on a dust cap or leaving an opening) because it makes the Membrane far more rigid – and less likely to distort. It also creates a more resilient connection to the voice coil. And that means that even more kinetic energy can be transferred from this very voice coil to the diaphragm via the on balance ribs around the center.
The 52 mm voice coil of the Evoke 20 is made of aluminum. Dynaudio have chosen aluminum instead of copper for this speaker, because this material provides the right balance of weight and winding height to reproduce bass frequencies powerfully on the one hand, while maintaining the necessary mechanical and electrical damping on the other. The midrange frequencies, which are particularly important for musical details, are also reproduced in detail.
A Nomex centering spider ensures proper alignment and movement of the entire ensemble. The bead derived from the new Contour, in turn, provides a wider dispersion range and correspondingly more power and “punch”.
The new Cerotar tweeter
The tweeter is a new development. It’s called Cerotar, and it’s based on key technologies derived from Dynaudio’s award-winning Esotar Forty tweeter, as well as the new Esotar3, which you’ll find in the high-end Confidence series.
This is – in this respect it does not differ from their other tweeters – a precision coated fabric dome with a diameter of 28 mm. This coating is applied with pinpoint accuracy in the right places at the right thickness to optimize high-frequency response – a process that has been refined in the development of their most exclusive speaker.
Behind the dome is a special component that they borrowed from the speaker Confidence speaker – the Hexis. This is a special internal dome that shapes the airflow to smooth the frequency response and prevent unwanted resonances that would affect treble response.
Like the Esotec+ woofer, it has at its heart the new Strontium Carbonate Ferrite+ ceramic magnet for increased sensitivity, improved detail resolution and natural, dynamic reproduction.
Or to put it more simply, “With these speakers, you can enjoy many hours of music without your ears getting tired.” So, let’s go: Get the prog rock quadruple album down from the attic!
Created for real life
Dynaudio’s designers conducted real field research when developing the Evoke. They visited showrooms, furniture stores and, of course, very real homes in Denmark. The Evoke 20 should cut a fine figure anywhere, both aesthetically and sonically. It was important to be able to imagine the speaker in a variety of living spaces – after all, living and listening are very individual things. You sit on the couch with a coffee, the dog sleeps in his basket – when everything fits, they call it hygge in Denmark, and the Evoke should fit into this picture.
That’s why the four Evoke cabinet designs are so appealing at first glance. Choose between “Black High Gloss” and “White High Gloss” (in these two variants a new lacquering process provides a stunning, glass-like look) and the warm and organic-looking “Walnut Wood” and “Blonde Wood” variants with their open veneer structure.
The cabinet are tapered towards the top – in the style of the Contour and Confidence series. The mounting screws are hidden behind elegant one-piece decorative rings. And because good design does not get older, you can be sure that these speakers will still radiate not only melodious music, but also tastefulness in 30 years.
And those are nice prospects, aren’t they?
