Heritage Special

Listen to craftsmanship. Listen to real wood. Listen to handmade state-of-the-art tweeters and woofers. Listen to over 2000 hours of development work, the deepest depths of your record collection. Listen to what you love.

Meticulous

The Heritage Special conveys that original inspiration that has shaped the Dynaudio name – and yet comes up with new surprises. Run your fingers over the handcrafted American Walnut veneer.

Discover the meticulously crafted transitions and corners of the hand-selected and individually assembled veneer panels. Pause at the unmistakable joint of the baffle. Remember the Dynaudio Speaker you once coveted.

And then put the top-notch Esotar 3 tweeter and the once again optimized Evidence woofer to the test with something that will rock your socks off.

Made in Denmark

This is a tribute to the most legendary compact speakers. Step closer and spot the little hints of the designs of the classics like the Crafft (1989) and the Special Twenty-Five (2002). There are references to the first Contour (1986). And even the back plate looks in the direction of Sapphire (2008) with a knowing wink.

The creation of the Heritage Special was a labor of love … not to mention secrecy. Daniel Emonts and Otto Jorgensen – the masterminds behind the project could often be caught whispering in the kitchen of Dynaudio Labs. They whispered sotto voce things like “American Walnut,” “Mundorf,” or “Martin over in manufacturing on Danmarksvej.” (And as soon as someone from the marketing department approached, they quickly fell silent).

Limited Edition

The Heritage Special is a limited edition: 2,500 pairs – and when they’re gone, they’re gone. The Speaker were made entirely in Denmark – every component, every detail.

And that’s why the term “special” is not used lightly. Everything about this Speaker, from the cabinet (built and finished in Skanderborg by Martin, Arkadijs, Mikkel and Malene) to the drivers (under the direction of Stine, also in Skanderborg) and the crossover (designed by Daniel, also in Skanderborg and built by Holms Radiofabrik in neighboring Horsens ) was created full of attention to detail.

It’s hip to be square

This is where the Heritage Special takes shape – literally.

The produced cabinets and veneers are selected to match each other – the fronts, sides, top and bottom surfaces. The two veneers for the Speaker in a pair are also matched. The cabinets are then numbered to keep them together until final assembly.

When selecting the narrow trim for the Gehäuse, close attention is paid to the right shade and the desired texture. Then matching sets are assembled (not only for each Speaker, but also its counterpart in the stereo pair) and are assigned to the veneer panels.

For the Gehäuse themselves, 19 mm thick MDF is used – a stiff and stable material that can be perfectly cut and processed. Sustainable American walnut is taken for the visible veneer. Inside, the Gehäuse are additionally stiffened to make them as rigid as possible. A layer of heavy bitumen on the surfaces of the inner sides minimizes unwanted resonances.

After they are glued and clamped, they are allowed to dry out. 24 hours later they are then handed over for sanding for perfect smoothness and flatness. This is done by hand.

Next

After the machining of the surfaces is finished, the cabinets are passed on for painting. Two coats are applied, and after each pass the cabinets go back for sanding. Only then applies the last layer. This is a process that has been perfected over more than 40 years. And when you run your fingers over the surface, you’ll feel that Dynaudio knows what they’re doing.

This is followed by the final inspection and then it goes to the final assembly, where chassis and crossovers are inserted.

Old’s cool

Take a close look at the tweeter. The Dynaudio historians among you will immediately notice the distinctive shape of the legendary Esotar T330D fabric dome tweeter. That alone justifies the attribute “Special”. But if you take your work seriously, you might as well do it so that the result is stunningly good.

That’s why Dynaudio has installed behind the front panel the best tweeter they have ever developed: the Esotar 3. With its large rear chamber, powerful and aerodynamic neodymium magnet system and resonance-reducing Hexis Dome, you will also find it in the current reference series Confidence.

A very special driver is also used for the midrange and bass: the 18W75 XL Heritage Special MSP woofer (some components simply deserve to be called by their full name). And those with eagle eyes will also recognize that the basic design of this chassis comes from the excellent Evidence Platinum.

The difference is that Dynaudio have improved this chassis again: The voice coil former of the classic aluminum voice coil is now made of fiberglass. The magnet system is a combination of neodymium and ferrite, which allows better control of the force flow. And the centering spider is now made of Nomex – just like in the Confidence and Contour i.

Crossover…

The crossover is also something very special. Sticking to the basics, a crossover with a traditional “filter-first” topology was designed. It was realized on request with the best components. The most important components were specially developed according to the high requirements. The legendary Evo Oil capacitors Mundorf are used in the critical signal path. To ensure a silky smooth transition between the drivers, local impedance and delay correction is also on board for each tweeter and woofer.

If you were to take the Speaker apart, you would also be able to see the 12 AWG internal wiring from Van den Hul as well as the polyester damping material made in Sweden.

On the brushed aluminum back you will find WBT’s highest quality 710 Cu mC NextGen terminals – another high-end detail for the connoisseur. And when you connect your cables there. Last but not least, you will also find the individual pair number of your Speaker on the back.
