The new Contour 20i was designed to outperform every other Contour compact model we've ever developed. And it succeeds.

The Esotar 2i tweeter is a turbocharged version of the popular Esotar2, so to speak. It now features a larger absorption chamber for more effective damping and the ingenious Hexis Dome seen on Confidence, Core and other models.

Together they flatten the frequency response and reduce unwanted resonances for even clearer, smoother highs. The woofer has also been optimised. It is still made from our own magnesium silicate polymer (MSP) material, of course it is still driven by a lightweight aluminium voice coil and it still uses a vented dual ferrite magnet system - but behind the striking black diaphragm lies a brand new spider.

This is made of aramid fibers and retains the ingenious structural properties of before (the ribs are of different widths to allow even finer control over the deflection of the cone).

You'd be surprised what a sonic difference such a small change can make...

And because these driver changes provide an inherently flat frequency response, we were able to simplify the crossover as well. It's a thing of beauty, isn't it? No additional impedance correction circuitry is required anymore - which means an even more direct signal path. And a cleaner sound.

Making a Contour without the characteristic baffle would be like a car without wheels. Unthinkable. But there is always room for improvement - and our designers love to stretch their legs.

This baffle is made of aluminum and is embedded in the housing. The curve of the baffle is continued in the chassis basket - this not only looks good, but also reduces unwanted high-frequency diffraction effects for clearer highs and provides a solid foundation for the chassis to work.

A solid foundation means improved performance at high volumes and even at low frequencies (although your neighbors may not thank us for that).

Even the internal cushioning is brand new - based on the experience from the Evoke and Confidence series.
